Event Details

The Leave No Child INSIDE Collaborative of Central Ohio is so pleased you will be attending!

We would like to share information on what to expect and what to bring.

ATTIRE:

This is an OUTDOOR event, in the peaceful and beautiful Heritage Garden at the Governor's Residence. Please dress casually (jeans) and wear weather-appropriate clothing. Consider bringing a hat and/or sunglasses, as some of the meeting areas are in full sun. In case of rain, we will be under large tents.

BRING:

  • Business cards
  • Something with which to take notes, if you desire
  • Money if you wish to purchase items available for sale (music CDs, etc), or if you wish to make a donation to the Collaborative to help defray the cost of the event.

TRANSPORTATION/PARKING:

On-street, neighborhood parking is available. Registration begins at 8:30, so you should have plenty of time to find parking. There is also a bike rack, and the Residence is walkable from the Broad Street COTA bus line.

Please enter on Maryland Avenue, near the corner of Parkview and Maryland. This is the gate that will be open, and the location where registration tables will be set up. Parking for the disabled is available directly outside this gate. Please reply to this email if you have additional accommodation needs for disabilities.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The theme is: Celebrate, Educate and Cross-Pollinate!

The beginning of the day will be a celebration of the accomplishments of the past year, and an opportunity to learn more about the movement nationally, statewide and locally. Helping us celebrate will be student participants, a chorus from the Columbus School for Girls, Jenny Morgan, and Puppet Lady Joyce Davis.

We will then be educated by our keynote speaker, Ken Finch, who is speaking on "Restoring the Nature of Childhood."

Following the keynote, we will begin the bulk of the day, which will be cross-pollinating by means of work sessions led by the participants themselves. Our facilitator, Tuesday Ryan Hart, will help us organize our sessions before lunch. After lunch, we will gather in small groups around the gardens and work on issues of importance in our local movement. Guided garden tours will also be available to all attendees. We will close with a culminating session at 4 p.m., and we will end the day at 4:30 p.m.

The Leave No Child INSIDE Central Ohio Collaborative is a member of the Children & Nature Network. The vision and mission of the Children & Nature Network is to give every child in every community a wide range of opportunities to experience nature directly, reconnecting our children with nature’s joys and lessons, its profound physical and mental bounty.

We are pleased to announce that the Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden will be hosting the 2nd Annual Leave No Child INSIDE Central Ohio Collaborative Summit! We are very excited that we are being welcomed into this beautiful and peaceful space. If you have not had a chance to visit the gardens, you will be able to tour the various habitats from around Ohio, which are on display and carefully maintained. The sound of flowing water will provide a wonderful backdrop to our day. Coffee/pastries will be available in the morning, and lunch will be provided. The event is free, but contributions and donations are accepted. To be a sponsor or funder of this event, contact Alice Hohl.

As always, we wish to reach a broad spectrum of those who care about this issue, including leaders in health, city planning, education, conservation, recreation, parks, mental health, fitness and more. We want the event to be open to everyone who has a passion for the topic, however due to the obvious security concerns at the Governor’s Residence, RSVP is required for attendance. We will be limited to the first 125 respondents. There will be strict adherence to the guest list on the day of the event, for security reasons. Thank you so much for your cooperation on this!

Disclaimer: No taxpayer funds will be used for this event.
